Our core curriculum is based on the Cornerstones Curriculum approach alongside pupil's individual EHCP plans. This enables a thematic approach to learning, ensuring pupils access a well-sequenced, broad and balanced curriculum regardless of their pathway.
The National Curriculum is not appropriate for many of our pupils as they are not yet ready for subject-specific learning so we use the Cornerstones approach flexibly to ensure our frameworks for learning are appropriate, yet still challenging, to individual needs.
Each half-term pupils follow a new project through the 4 cornerstones approach:
I'm introduced to a theme, giving me a context for learning.
I'm building new skills & knowledge across a range of subjects.
I'm using and applying my new skills and knowledge to answer a challenge.
I'm sharing my learning with others in a non-formal way. I reflect on my learning.
