    • Kindness Hearts

      Published 24/11/25

The Chesterfield FC Knit and Natter group asked for the support of our Chesterfield pupils as part of their annual mental health initiative. The group had knitted more than 2,000 hearts and invited our students to attach a positive message to each one before helping to distribute them around the stadium in preparation for match day. With only three days to complete the project, the students worked brilliantly as a team and rose to the challenge.

On the final day, students joined staff from Chesterfield Football Club to place the hearts on seats throughout the stadium for fans to discover. While they were working, the team manager approached the group to share how impressed he was with their efforts. As a thank-you, he arranged for the students to meet several players and have a group photo taken.

    • Chesterfield FC Football Match

      Published 17/11/25

On Tuesday 7th October, several students from Chesterfield Class 2 had the exciting opportunity to stay after school and watch the Chesterfield FC vs. Burton Albion match. The evening began with some relaxed social time, where the group chose to play team games such as table football and table tennis. This gave everyone a chance to unwind, have fun together, and build their teamwork skills before heading to the stadium.

Before the match, the students discussed meal options and voted on what they would like to eat. They settled on a crowd-pleasing combination of pizza and jacket potatoes. Working together, the group laid the table, enjoyed their meal, and then took responsibility for cleaning up, showing great cooperation and independence throughout.

When it was time for kick-off, the students took their seats in the stands, sitting together to enjoy the atmosphere of a live football match. They cheered passionately for Chesterfield, chatted excitedly with one another, and soaked up the buzz around the ground.

Their enthusiasm was rewarded when Chesterfield secured a 1–0 victory. It was a fantastic evening filled with teamwork, socialising, and plenty of football spirit.

If you are an employer, a family member, or know someone who could offer even a short work experience placement (as little as one day), or if you have suggestions for local businesses that might be interested, we would love to hear from you.

Please contact c.wiltshire@stubbinwood.teameducation.org to discuss opportunities or share your ideas.

    • Fantastic Football

      Published 19/05/25

On Friday 2nd May, a group of 27 enthusiastic KS3 and KS4 students from Stubbin Wood School – which included 21 footballers of all abilities and six spirited cheerleaders – made the short journey next door to Shirebrook Academy to take part in an exciting inter-school football tournament.

With glorious sunshine and clear skies, conditions were perfect for a morning of sport and teamwork. Stubbin Wood entered two teams into the competition: Team A and Team B. Each match lasted five minutes, and the round-robin format meant every team had the chance to play one another.

Fittingly, the opening match of the day saw our A team face off against our B team in a friendly but competitive start. The A team clinched a narrow 1–0 win, setting the tone for the rest of their tournament. Buoyed by their strong start, Team A continued their winning streak, winning every match and taking home the overall victory.

Beyond the success on the scoreboard, the day was a celebration of teamwork, determination, and school spirit. Whenever one team took to the pitch, the other could be found cheering loudly from the sidelines – a true display of unity and encouragement. There were plenty of smiles, laughter, and unforgettable moments shared throughout the morning.

Well done to all the students involved – both on the field and on the sidelines – for representing Stubbin Wood School with such pride, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm.
